With THUNDERCAT, 2012
Since 2001, I’ve been lucky enough to combine my loves for writing and music: I’ve worked on copy desks at Rolling Stone and Vibe, and I’ve been honored to edit Damian Erskine’s The Improvisor’s Path: Exploring the Bassist’s Path To Mastery (2014), as well as Janek Gwizdala’s You’re a Musician. Now What? (2012) and All the Good Stuff: How I Practice (2014). My interviews, album reviews, and gear write-ups have appeared in Keyboard, Electronic Musician, Guitar World Acoustic, and Premier Guitar. As a senior editor at Bass Player and former editor-in-chief of the short-lived Guitar World spin-off Bass Guitar, I’ve hung out with some of the greatest low-frequency manipulators ever. Here are some of my favorite stories.
Besides being a music journalist, I’ve been a copy editor for the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, The Palm Beach Post, and The Miami Herald; I’ve also been an editor/proofreader for the City of New York and a copy chief for Computer Shopper.
